Manchester Announced as European Capital of Cycling - Great News for Ebikes in Manchester and Ebikes in Stockport!

In December 2023, Manchester proudly claimed the title of the inaugural European Capital of Cycling, marking a significant victory for the city`s vibrant e-bike community.  This achievement is seen as a pivotal moment for Manchester`s e-biking movement.

In September 2023, town hall leaders unveiled the submission of a bid to ACES Europe, recognizing the city`s ambitious efforts to embrace electric bikes in both Manchester and the Greater Manchester region (including Ebikes in Stockport). This successful bid reflects years of dedicated work, showcasing Manchester`s commitment to the expansive growth of EBikes. 

While additional details about the implications of this status will be unveiled in the coming year, the award is expected to ignite increased funding and support for  initiatives ebikes in Manchester.  Manchester plans to introduce a variety of cycling events, engaging e-bike enthusiasts, clubs, and organisations. A dedicated website with specific details is set to launch in January 2024.

Manchester has already earned a reputation as an e-biking hotspot. With the introduction of new ebike friendly infrastructure, including cycleways under initiatives like the Bee Network, the city is witnessing a surge in Ebike usage. 

The broader transport strategy aligns with the electric bike movement, aiming for 90% of all journeys to the city center to be made via public transport, walking, or cycling by 2040, contributing to Manchester`s goal of becoming a zero-carbon city by 2038.
